This weapon does employ a slide hold open mechanism to inform the operator that the last round has been fired. This sidearm weighs in at just about 2 1/2 pounds and has an overall length of 8.25 inches and a barrel length of 5.03 inches. The pistol also features a thumb safety located at the rear of the frame behind the left grip panel. An empty magazine will easily eject from the pistol under its own weight. The pistol utilizes a push button magazine release that is located on the frame at the bottom rear corner of the trigger guard. This pistol is fed by a single column 7 round detachable box magazine. The sight system includes a square blade front sight that is milled as part of the slide, and a square notch rear sight that is housed in a dovetail slot and drift adjustable for windage only. The steel frame has a grey parkerized finish. The pistol has been designed to operate as a single action firearm that utilizes an external hammer. The M1911A1 is a recoil operated, self-loading, semi-automatic pistol that has been chambered for the. This M1911A1 was manufactured by the Ithaca Gun Company in late 1943 according to historical records.

Has heart shaped openings under grips that started at approximately serial number 375,000. Right side of Colt 1911 serial number 446933. The hammer, trigger and magazine should have the same finish as the frame and slide. It is a semi-auto chambered for the 45 ACP with a 5' barrel and 7 round magazine. Guns with a higher serial number are parkerized. Ithaca 1911A1's below serial number 905,000 should have a Du-Lite finish which is a black oxide. Any information that could be provided by knowledgeable M1911 collectors would be sincerely appreciated. It was pointed out to me by members of the CMP forum, that while the serial number falls within the last block of 1945 production pistols, the serial number is higher than the last known Ithaca serial number of 2,660,318. The Browning design was so great, that it has been changed little in over 100 years of production. An 'X' prefix to the serial number indicates a gun that has been re-serial numbered by ordnance, and the maker is neither identifiable or relevant. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day.A geometric-shape proofmark, like a triangle, arrowhead or such, on the front left of triggerguard indicates an M1911A1 made by Ithaca.

Magazine is very fine and retains 95% blue finish. Grips are fine with sharp checkering and very few mars. Small parts retain 95% Parkerized finish. Frame retains 95% Parkerized finish with some high point wear at front and a scratch by takedown pin. Slide retains 95% Parkerized finish with slight muzzle wear and high point wear on left side and rear. Right rear of frame has Ordnance mark in front of hammer. вЂњUNITED STATES PROPERTY SN M1911-A1 US ARMYвЂќ on right side of frame. Frame shows вЂњFJAвЂќ inspector mark above magazine release and вЂњPвЂќ proof below release. Bbl has blue finish and has a вЂњPвЂќ proof stamped on both sides of lug. Slide shows вЂњIthaca Gun Co.вЂќ mark rolled on left side and a вЂњPвЂќ proof in front of rear sight and an Ordnance bomb proof above firing pin slot. Ithaca manufactured a total 335,466 pistols under Government contract. Cal.45 ACP, 5вЂі bbl, Parkerized finish, checkered plastic grips.
